Food Forest
Our farmer women have set up a food forest in Prayagraj which is low-maintenance, sustainable, plant-based food production and agro-forestry system that includes fruit and nut trees, shrubs, herbs, vines, and perennial vegetables that produce foods directly for human consumption.
The two most popular approaches used to create our food forest are agro-forestry and permaculture. The first step the women took in establishing the food forest was to choose the plants. The biggest plants chosen were lemons, guava, mango which will reach for the sun, Smaller plants that require more shade, on the other hand, were planted under cover of the creepers such as parval, kundroo, karela and beans.
